EMA Conducts Initial Damage Assessment

EMA Conducts Initial Damage Assessment

Elmore County – The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) / National Weather Service (NWS) placed Elmore County under a “moderate risk” for severe thunderstorms for an event on Friday that was forecasted to impact our area through at least midnight.

Emergency Management Agency (EMA) personnel activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to monitor the progression of severe weather across the state and to keep careful watch of their weather radar.

With supercell thunderstorms staying primarily to the west all day and squall line thunderstorms failing to develop ahead of the approaching cold front, it appeared once again that Elmore County was going to “dodge the bullet.”

Around 8 pm however, weather radar indicated two supercell formations approaching from a west-southwestwardly direction, and on an apparent collision course with Elmore County.
