With Mobile’s 4-3 victory over Belhaven this afternoon, the seventh-ranked Auburn Montgomery softball team clinched the top spot in the Southern States Athletic Conference West Division for the regular season.
The Warhawks (39-8, 17-7 SSAC) won the division for the first time since its creation three years ago. They will begin play in the conference tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Mobile versus the East’s No. 4 team (Southern Wesleyan or Emmanuel).
Belhaven had an opportunity to pass AUM after sweeping Spring Hill yesterday. The Blazers needed another sweep this afternoon against the Rams, but dropped the opening game and will have to settle for the second seed.
AUM is in the midst of its best season in its five-year history.
