Cassie Daniels named NAIA National Pitcher of the Week
Auburn Montgomery sophomore Cassie Daniels earned NAIA National Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday, becoming just the second Warhawk to be recognized nationally in the five-year history of the program.
Daniels received the national honor after allowing just one run in a pair of complete game victories over top 15 opponents. She struck out 16 batters over 14 innings.
On Saturday, Daniels tossed her first career no-hitter, and the fifth in AUM history, against ninth-ranked Belhaven. She followed up that performance with a complete-game seven hitter versus 14th-ranked William Carey in a 7-1 Warhawks victory.
Entering today’s doubleheader against Mobile, Daniels led the team with a 17-1 record, a 1.52 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 119 2/3 innings. She is currently ranked fourth in the NAIA in opponent batting average, with opponents hitting just .148 against her.
