Governor Bentley signs executive order establishing Alabama Medicare Advisory Commission

With the goal of reforming Medicaid by improving financial stability and patient care, Governor Robert Bentley on Thursday signed an executive order establishing the Alabama Medicaid Advisory Commission.

The Commission will be tasked with evaluating the financial structure of the Alabama Medicaid Agency and identifying ways to increase efficiency while also helping ensure the long-term sustainability of the agency.  The Commission will make recommendations to Governor Bentley prior to the 2013 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature.

“We are committed to increasing efficiency, eliminating fraud and maintaining patient care,” Governor Bentley said.  “We believe we can deliver higher-quality care while also controlling costs.  The Alabama Medicaid Advisory Commission will help us accomplish this.”

Elmore County Republican Party to host Voter Forum

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - The Elmore County Republican Party is putting together a Voter Forum to discuss the list of Constitutional Amendments on the upcoming Nov. 6 election ballot. Several River Region Legislators will sit on a panel of experts who will explain each amendment.

This panel will be moderated by popular radio talk show (93.1 FM) host, Dan Morris from the Dan Morris afternoon show.  The Panel of Experts will be Senator Bryan Taylor, Rep. Paul Beckman, and Rep. Joe Hubbard.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Wetumpka Civic Center:

     The Elmore County Republican Executive Committee announces the opening of their 2012 Election cycle Headquarters.  There will be a  “Grand Old Party” Open House on Saturday, September 8th beginning at 9:30 a.m. through 2 p.m.  Then the Headquarters will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Noon until 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10   a.m. until 2 p.m. through the November 6th election.  The headquarters is located in the Towne Plaza shopping center (56 Village Loop Drive) in Wetumpka (near the former Coaches Corner location.)

Bertarelli found not guilty of assault

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - A candidate running for a seat on the Wetumpka City Council was found not guilty on charges that he'd assaulted a neighbor.

Frank Bertarelli was aquitted of the misdemeanor assault charge after it was found he was justified in defending himself.

A neighbor accused Bertarelli of assault after an altercation. Bertarelli, running for the District One seat, says his neighbor has a history of harrassing the Bertarelli family.

Bertarelli claimed self defense at the time of his arrest but said he would not file any charges against the neighbor because he didn't want to start "a warrant war".

The alleged incident happened in the past week, but due to the proximity to the election, Bertarelli's trial was expedited.
