Ten New Year's Resolutions for Pet Owners from the Elmore County Humane Society

1.  Keep identification on your pet!  A collar, current rabies tag & a personalized identification with a good phone number will get your lost pet back to you.  Get your pet micro-chipped by your veterinarian as it is the perfect back-up to tags.  Have photos of your pet just in case.

2.  Keep your pet safely contained at home.  Fences not only make ‘good neighbors’ but keep your pets safe from cars, guns, getting lost and so much more. Keep cats indoors if at all possible.

3.  Take your pet to the vet at least once per year so your vet can do a check-up, keep vaccinations current & get your heartworm prevention renewed.

4.  Spay and neuter your pet. Besides reducing the overpopulation that results in far too many homeless pets there is a long list of health benefits for both female and male pets.

Elmore County Humane Society Pets-of-the-Week - CUTE PUPPIES!!!

Elmore County Humane Society Pets-of-the-Week - CUTE PUPPIES!!!

We have three remaining puppies from a litter whose breed mix is rather up for grabs, but they sure are cute.  We don’t think they will be very big when they are grown as they are only about 7 lbs at twelve weeks old and there are two little girls & one boy hoping to have new homes by Christmas.  Our adoption fee for dogs is $100 and for cats is $80 which completely covers the mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. To see these puppies or any of our other great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.org . We are open for adoptions this week Mon-Thu 10-4.

News from the Elmore County Humane Society

It was a great weekend at the shelter as lots of supporters stopped by our Shelter & Thrift Store on Saturday for our Open House.  Many thanks to our volunteers who brought in treats and goodies for our customers as they were enjoyed by all.  On Sunday dozens of pets had their pictures taken with Santa at the Montgomery PETsMART and by Sunday evening over 20 of our dogs and cats had found their forever homes.  A few families even took home two of our pets together and we always love those adoptions!  We also want to thank all of our awesome supporters who have stopped by with donations of pet food, blankets, towels, supplies and money – you are truly showing the Christmas spirit to our pets and we are extremely grateful for each and every donation.  If you would still like to donate to our shelter before year’s end, you can do so via PayPal on our website at www.elmorehumane.org or

He is a Golden Retriever/Yellow Labrador mix, about two years old and around 75 lbs.  Max is very playful and great with other dogs and just needs someone with a bit of patience to teach him all the manners he was never taught in his previous home.  But Max is eager to learn and will be truly wonderful addition to an active family. Our adoption fee dogs is $100 and for cats is $80 which completely covers the mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. Cole, a 7-year-old Bulldog, is getting another chance with some national attention attached. He's featured on cesarsway.com, Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer's website.

The mention is part of the Dog Whisperer's 12 Dogs of Christmas, "a photo collection of pups from shelters and rescues across the country who need a home this holiday season."

"We love our Cole, but still looking for that wonderful home for him!  Maybe this nationwide exposure will finally do it!" said Elmore County Humane Society Director, Rea Cord.

Make sure to check Cole out and see if he would make a good addition to your furry family!

Cecilia is a very sweet two-year old brown tabby kitty who has been with us for a long time now and we have no idea why as she is just a wonderful kitty.  Cecilia is very laid back in attitude and just wants a lap or a sunny spot to call her own.  She is perfectly fine with other cats and dogs and children so would be a good fit in any cat loving home.  Our adoption fee for cats is $80 and for dogs is $100 which completely covers the mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam. To see Cecilia or any of our other great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.org .
