Deatsville man sentenced to prison for abusing his twin boys

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - An Elmore County man has been sentenced to prison for child abuse involving his two young sons.

An Autauga County Judge sentenced 22-year-old Mohamad Osman of Deatsville to serve 20 years in prison following his conviction on aggravated child abuse charges.

Authorities say the child abuse involved Osman's twin boys who were only one-year-old at the time of the reported abuse.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, no additional details could be released.

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - A former Montgomery Fire Fighter and Elmore County youth sports coach pleaded guilty to electronic solicitation of a child Wednesday morning in an Autauga County court.

According to authorities, John Montague pleaded guilty this morning to two counts of electronic solicitation. Montague originally turned himself in to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office back in October of 2011 after he was charged with harassment in Elmore County for allegedly kissing a 13-year-old girl and sending her inappropriate text messages. Montague was charged with two counts of electronic solicitation in Autauga County a month later.

Documents state that police believe Montague used a cell phone to attempt to arrange meetings with a child under the age of 16 for sexual purposes at both Birmingham Southern University and Edgewood Academy back in September 2011.

The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) held its annual State Oratorical
Contest on October 30, 2012, at Faulkner University, Montgomery, Alabama. District
winners from the seven AISA districts competed for first, second, and third place awards.
All speakers addressed the topic, "Gun Control and the 2nd Amendment: What should
the government’s role be in balancing the safely of our nation’s citizens while
preserving the rights afforded to us through the United States Constitution?"
in prepared speeches that ranged from six to eight minutes in length.

STATE ORATORICAL WINNERS:

First Place: Riggs Taylor, Patrician Academy
Second Place: Eric Lowe, Crcnshaw Christian Academy
Third Place: Ashlyn Lett, Victory Christian School

Other district winners who competed for state honors include the following:

As the competition narrows for the 2012 Wendy’s® High School Heisman® Award program, 20 of Alabama’s top scholar-athletes were announced today as State Finalists for the prestigious award. These finalists are now in the running to become State Winners, the next phase of the program as applicants advance to become National Winners.

Local Wendy's High School Heisman State finalists are:

  • Kristin Stakely (F) - Montgomery Academy - Montgomery
  • Billy Johnson (M) - Edgewood Academy - Wetumpka

Of the 45,000 seniors who applied nationwide, 1,375 came from Alabama and have been narrowed down to the state’s 20 finalists.

Caspari sister sentenced to prison for arranging brother's escape attempt

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) - The sister of an accused murderer out of Elmore County was sentenced to prison time today for trying to help her brother escape from jail.

According to authorities, Judge Ben Fuller today sentenced Jessica Caspari to a six year split sentence. Caspari will serve 28 months in prison followed by three years on probation.

Caspari pleaded guilty in September to paying an inmate on work release $500 to smuggle in pieces of a hacksaw blade to her brother, Josh Caspari, in the Elmore County Jail.

Josh Caspari has been held in police custody for his alleged connection to the February 15 death of Anna Cardwell.
