Sentencing delayed for woman who faked son's cancer

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An Elmore County woman who pleaded guilty to faking her 5-year-old son's terminal cancer will put off sentencing for two more months after her attorney says she suffered a medical emergency.

According to the Elmore County District Attorney's Office, sentencing 23-year-old Stephanie Nicole Jones of Titus has been continued until April 4 due to medical reasons.

Jones was originally scheduled to be sentenced today on theft by deception charges after she pleaded guilty to falsely claiming her 5-year-old son had terminal cancer and collecting donations on his behalf.

Multiple businesses pitched in the fund what she said was her son's dying wish - a trip to Disneyworld.

Jones told authorities back in 2011 that it was, "a bad mistake that spiraled out of control."

AUM Softball hopes to build on memorable 2012 season

AUM Softball hopes to build on memorable 2012 season

After a historical season in 2012, which culminated in the program’s first trip to the NAIA National Championship tournament, this year’s Auburn Montgomery softball squad is looking to establish itself as consistent contenders on the national stage.

The Warhawks finished 42-20 last year, clinching the first 40-win season in the short four-year history of the program. They were one game away from clinching their first Southern States Athletic Conference title, falling to William Carey 3-0 in the championship game.

Finishing as the conference runner-up was enough to seal a national tournament berth, however, and AUM displayed its worthiness by winning all three games in bracket play. The Warhawks’ memorable season finally came to an end in pool play with a 4-1 defeat to national runner-up Oklahoma City.

“It was an amazing ride,” head coach Chris Steiner-Wilcoxson said. “It was a four-year journey.
