Veteran coach returns to the game

“We’re going to learn together,” said John Goodman on Friday afternoon, after it was announced that he would be taking the reins of the Tallassee High School softball program after a three-year hiatus from coaching.

During the past three years, Goodman continued to teach P.E. and serve as an administrative assistant at SMS. He also took the time to focus on his own family at home.

Goodman, a 1984 THS graduate and standout in football and baseball, attended Troy and Faulkner universities on athletic scholarships.

He has been the P.E. coach at Southside Middle School since 1990, and was the head baseball coach from 1993-2008, replacing the legendary Ronnie Baynes.

While Coach Goodman was at the helm, the THS baseball team earned State Championships in 1995 and 1998.

Through the years, Goodman became the winningest coach in Tallassee baseball history.
