Humane Society of Elmore County News – 7 Jan ‘12
This week starts a whole new year and January is off to a great start with some great events benefitting the shelter and the animals we care for.
The Animal Rescue Site Shelter Challenge and our chance to win $1000 for our animals’ starts again TODAY! Just go to www.animalrescuesite.com and then to the “Shelter Challenge” tab on the right of the main info box. Type in our name or select Alabama and then type in Wetumpka to find our shelter to vote for us. Once you vote for us it is even easier as our shelter will automatically pop up on the screen for you to vote every day (and you can get a daily reminder email). You can vote once each day on any computer or smart phone (or web browser) you have access to – work, home, school, etc. Please ask your friends, classmates, family and coworkers to vote for us – costs nothing, no registration required and just a couple of clicks every day will get us to another $1000 for our deserving critters!
On Saturday, 12 January, H&R Block at 5346 Hwy 231 in Wetumpka will have an Open House and Supply Drive for our shelter from 10 am – 2 pm. We will be there with some of our pups and greatly appreciate any donated supplies we receive. Just check out our ‘Basic Needs’ page on our website at http://www.elmorehumane.org/basic_needs_list.htm to see the items we can always use to help us do our work to help animals in need!
And looking for something to do on a Saturday night? We hope for a packed house on Saturday, 26 January at Wishbone Studio, 2625 Zelda Road, Montgomery! This is a non-smoking, family friendly live music venue (not a bar) showcasing some of the hottest local and regional acts around. Bring your own bottle or cooler full, food, even chair if the place is packed. Two awesome bands, Wishbone & Free Flight, will be playing Classic Southern Rock to benefit our shelter and animals! Wishbone Studio is giving us a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our shelter and a great chance for all of us fellow animal loving shelter supporters to get together for an evening of music and fun! Tickets are available in advance for only $10 by responding to our shelter Facebook ‘Event’ announcement or by calling/texting Rick at 334-782-6057; tickets will be $15 at the door on the 26th.
Did you make a New Year’s Resolution to help others perhaps? How about becoming a volunteer for our shelter where you can help animals and people! We have Volunteer Training coming up Sunday, 27 January ’13 from 1-4 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, Hwy 231 in Wetumpka. You can find out about volunteering in the shelter, in our Thrift Store, at our various events, in education, as a foster and more. Don’t worry – you can stop in, find out what interests you and head on for any other plans you may have.
And your chance to win $10,000 is coming up soon at our 4th Annual “Getting Down with the Dawgs” Draw Down on Saturday, 23 February 2013! With the purchase of a $100 ticket you will have a 1 in 300 opportunity to win $10,000; OR a week’s stay for FOUR at Mountain Loft Resort in Gatlinburg, TN (lodging only); OR, a week’s stay for SIX at Paradise Isle Resort in Gulf Shores, AL (lodging only); OR other great door prizes! Besides a chance to win big, each ticket holder and guest will also get a delicious buffet dinner and beverages at Bonnie Crest Country Club, 1410 Federal Drive, Montgomery! Doors will open at 5 pm, dinner begins at 6 pm and the Drawdown starts at 7 pm. Tickets are on sale at the shelter so don’t delay – get your ticket(s) now or buy one as a gift! Another thought is to purchase a ticket for a business or other organization as they could surely put $10,000 to good use if they were the big winner! For all the details go to our website at www.elmorehumane.org or call us at 334-567-3377 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
