Tax business owner guilty of using stolen identities to obtain tax refunds

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Marsha Elmore of Wetumpka, Ala., the owner of a tax preparation business called Community Tax, pleaded guilty today to charges related to her use of stolen identities to fraudulently obtain tax refunds, the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced. Elmore pleaded guilty to one count each of filing a false claim, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. On Aug. 31, 2011, she had been charged with those crimes as part of a 32-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Montgomery, Ala.

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - The City of Wetumpka is home to a new type of business - as of today the city's only tattoo parlor is open for business.

Desecration Ink, owned by Jason and Jessica Morris, opens today and is located at 2239 Hwy. 231 next to Casa Napoli.

The business will specialize in custom tattoo designs and will be open Monday-Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday by appointment only.

Winn Dixie completes voluntary recall on in-store bakery items

On Friday, August 5, 2011, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., issued a voluntary recall on potentially mislabeled items from its in-store bakeries. Following this announcement, Department of Agriculture & Industry food safety inspectors began conducting recall effectiveness checks in Winn-Dixie stores throughout Alabama.

The items listed below are being recalled because the products may be mislabeled:

  • “Winn-Dixie Lemon Bar” cakes
  • “Winn-Dixie Chocolate Cherry Bar” cakes
  • “Winn-Dixie Bakery Iced Cinnamon Rolls - 6 Pack”

The mislabeled products may contain undeclared egg and/or wheat. Individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Individuals sensitive to wheat protein can suffer a moderate-acute allergic reaction.

MONTGOMERY, AL – Entec has announced the launch of its new Fuel Finder application to help mobile device users locate the closest Entec fueling station as well as real-time prices for all stations.

 

The Entec Fuel Finder at m.entecstations.com can be bookmarked for quick reference, with an easily accessible graphic icon for mobile device screens.

 

Entec is the first locally owned and operated store in the area to offer this service both through mobile technology and online at its website. The application uses the new W3 Geolocation API to produce interactive maps of the company’s stations across the River Region, along with up-to-the-minute prices for fuel at those locations.

During more than an hour of discussion Monday night, Wetumpka City Council members hammered out an agreement concerning the hire of seasonal temporary employees for the city’s ball fields. The motion passed by the panel allows applications and resumes to be accepted for the number and classification of workers needed to operate the municipal park and the softball complex.
