Southside Jazz Band plays for "Senior Prom"

The Southside Middle School Jazz Band performed for the Tallassee Senior Center Valentine's Day "Senior Prom" on Monday, February 14, 2011.

Mr. Mike Woodall, director of the center, invited the band to play after hearing about their performance at the Greater Tallassee Chamber of Commerce dinner.

The jazz band members are 8th graders, all in their second year of playing an instrument.  The jazz band is an all-volunteer group comprised of 28 members, which is approximately half of the 8th grade concert band class.

Students performed a wide variety of music in their 45-minute set, including Xavier Cugat's "Brazil"; "St. Louis Blues," by W.C. Handy; and featured Mayor George McCain on drums as the band played the Neil Diamond favorite "Sweet Caroline".
