Art-Infused Poetry Slam Workshop

Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, Jill Scott, Jewel, Lou Reed, Dave Chappelle, and even Cedric the Entertainer have all appeared on Def Poetry Jam, record mogul Russell Simmons’ tribute to the art of the spoken word poetry, which is like rap without the track; it’s just an artist on a stage with his own words and his own rhythm.  It’s freedom. 

Like all great arts, someone found a way to organize, publicize, and legitimize spoken word poetry.  Slams are competitive events where poets interpret their pieces for a live audience.  Performances are scored by a panel of judges and a winner is chosen.  However, at slams, unlike rap battles or bad basketball games, no one is made to feel inadequate.  There are always beautiful words, plenty of applause, and respect is always given to each poet’s point-of-view.

Prattville's Way Off Broadway Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for Robert Harling's Steel Magnolias - back by popular demand!

April 10th - 3:00 p.m.
April 11th - 7:00 p.m.

Directed by Kristen Koehler.

The show will run June 9th through 26th.

Corks and Canvas Humane Society Painting Party

On Sunday March 27th Corks and Canvas is hosting the ‘Humane Society Painting Party.’  This event will give participants the opportunity to paint alongside an instructor in a 2 ½ hour step by step class while helping out a great organization in Montgomery.  The $35 registration fee includes everything except beverages of your choice.   The classes are designed for your success and you'll have a fun time with family and friends. Plus, at the end of the evening, you'll have a one-of-a-kind creation and, hopefully, a new-found talent you'll want to explore! Think it's beyond you?  The Corks and Canvas instructors will guide you through each step of recreating the featured picture, and you'll have painlessly created a piece of art before you know it.

Sing-A-Long a 'Sound of Music'

The Montgomery Chorale is presenting “Sing-a-Long a ’Sound of Music’” this Saturday at the Capri Theatre.  This event will not only feature the 1965 film but, will also give audience members an opportunity to participate in the movie experience.   During each musical number in the film, there will be subtitles with lyrics to help audience members sing along with Julie Andrews and the rest of the Von Trapp family.

The Trenholm Tech Foundation will present Louisiana Lagniappe from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 13th at the Alley Station Terrace located at 130 Commerce Street in downtown Montgomery. Guests will mix and mingle, dance the night away, and partake of unlimited specialty Louisiana inspired delicacies prepared by Trenholm State’s professionally trained culinary arts students under the supervision and direction of award winning chef-instructors, Mary Ann Campbell, Robert Cawley and April Rudder. 

The event will bring together civic and philanthropic leaders in the River Region to support the mission of the Foundation, which is student success through scholarships.
