"Second Samuel" production planned by Wetumpka Depot Players

WETUMPKA, ALA - The Wetumpka Depot Players are pleased to announce their award winning production of Second Samuel will be performed at the Wetumpka Depot Players theater on September 11 at 2pm.  Two other sold out performances are also scheduled for Sept 9 and 10.

Written by Atlanta playwright Pamela Parker, this comical and touching play about life and friendships is set in the rural Georgia town of Second Samuel during the summer of 1949.  It is a time when everyone's glass is half full; the women get their hair done at Omaha Nebraska's Beauty Shop and the men drink at the local bar.  The young and simple-minded B Flat takes the audience on a tour of his town, introducing us to characters who must deal with the revelation of an unexpected secret that shakes the town to its very core!  Although diversity might not have been a part of the vocabulary in 1949, it certainly found a place in Second Samuel.

Wetumpka Depot players home from whirlwind experience

The Wetumpka Depot Players are home after a whirlwind experience at the American Association of Community Theatres last week. After winning both the state and regional competitions, the Depot represented the entire southeast with their critically acclaimed production of Pamela Parker’s moving play, Second Samuel

Board President Watt Jones, one of several board members who made the trip to New York to support the cast and crew, was thrilled at the group’s performance. “I am so proud of our cast and crew,” said Jones. “They were fantastic! They received two standing ovations – something no other show got at the festival and, I understand it has been six years since any other show has gotten such spontaneous recognition.”

Two cast members, Steve Mitchell (U.S.) and Bradley Moon (Doc) were nominated for supporting acting awards. Jonathan Conner (B Flat) was nominated for the best actor award.
